Long Island Man Driving Nearly Twice Speed Limit Charged With DWI, Sheriff Says

A late-night speeding stop of a driver going nearly double the posted speed limit on Long Island led to a DWI for an allegedly intoxicated man, the Suffolk County Sheriff said.

Suffolk County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped Brentwood resident Jonathan Sosa, 28, at approximately 2:13 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, when he was caught driving more than 55 mph in a posted 30 mph zone on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood.

During the subsequent traffic stop, deputies determined that Sosa demonstrated that he was intoxicated during Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and he was arrested. At the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that Sosa had a blood alcohol content of .09 percent, more than the legal limit.

Sosa was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He was released following his arrest and released, pending a future court appearance.
